Nowadays, logistics industry in China expands quickly with the rapid developmentof economy, but a large number of logistics businesses still in the stage of manualoperation with low efficiency. Therefore, it is necessary to modernize technicalreconstruction of present logistics system for better work efficiency. A highly effective, fast and low cost logistics information management system (LIMS) is essential for alogistics enterprise’s efficient operation, it can fully utilize different resources to satisfycustomer needs, and carry out cross regional logistic business.Owing to the operating features of logistics industry and convenience andflexibilities of J2EE, a low cost, fast and effective LIMS can greatly improve workefficiency and reduce operation cost of an organization. An integrated application ofworkflow engine can manage, define, create workflow execution steps, explain thedefinition and implementation of process, interact with workflow participants, calldifferent IT tools and applications, achieve logistics actual business operation process, convert to workflow process models that can be processed by computer simulations.Taking all the above features into account, the paper proposes that workflow engine canrealize process simulation, modeling, optimization, management and integratedoperations of logistics business processes, and ultimately a core business processautomation of logistic management. An integrated application of workflow engine inLIMS can establish business process to meet organization and customer needs timelyand efficiently. The thesis researches the design and implementation of LIMS with J2EE and FireWorkflow. It first reviews the current situation of LIMS at home and abroad, makesnecessary comparisons and identifies the key issues, and then designs the LIMS withJ2EE accordingly while focusing on an integrated application of Fire Workflow. Itrealizes a simple, flexible and efficient LIMS, tests the system function andperformance, and summarizes its limitations and issues for further study.
