In today’s world, most of the newly reseached radar are active phased array radar. Based on the new technology of DBF, active phased array radar is better than the other type of radar technically. This paper is derived from a radar researching task that ecriee undertook.Multiple receiving channels are used to perform beam forming, the equalization of amplitude and phase in receiving channels and their stability are the key factors of DBF performing. To ensure radar’s performances, receiving channels calibration are needed. Inner and outer processing methods are combined. This method uses testing signal instead of far field signal to complete receiving channel calibration, so the radar is not only easy to use, but also has very high practical value.For phased array radar, the equalization of primary phase of all transmitting modules are very important not only to the transmitting beam, but also to the performances of the whole radar system. One algorithm of transmitting channel calibration is discussed in this paper, and one of its engineering implementing method is put forward. The principle and algorithm of adaptive sidelobe cancellation is also analysed. This paper also describes a method of DBF performing of active phased array radar based on the technology of high speed serial bus of LVDS.In conclusion, this paper gives emphasis to the hardware circuit, working process and software design of beam forming. FPGA and ADSP devices are briefed to let users know how to select these devices according to discussed. In two aspects-the hardware composition and the working process-the realization method of digital beam forming using FPGA and ADSP devices is discussed in detail.In this paper, the most advanced programmable chips such as DSP and FPGA are included to perform digital beam forming with scheduled technology performance. This beam forming module has been circuit tested to fulfill its system requirement. And the research achievement has applied to many phased array radar with good performance、 stability^high practical value and narrowed the gap between our country and other countries in this field, its realization has important economical and military values.
