As the rapid development of wireless communication technology, in modern life mobile terminals have become essential as communication tools, and the data amount in the phone book has been increased sharply. The secure backup for phone book has become an important requirement. So in domestic China Mobile firstly carry out the PIM (Personal Information Management) business, and requested the mobile phone manufacturers had designed, developed and applied PIM business, greatly meet the demand that mobile user wish his phone book can be backuped securely, that is, the mobile user can easily use PIM to realized real-time remote management for phone book. Therefore, it has been a hot issue to design and develop PIM client for mobile phone device.In order to realise the secure backup for phone book, this paper will describe the specific design, realization and testing job for PIM.(1) Afer full comparison based large proof during the two common system platforms and four synchronization protocols, the paper select Windows Mobile as an system platform and choose SyncML as synchronization protocol.(2) Summary design has been made for PIM, and design and development have been made for every fuction module. PIM client has been divided into four modules, which are SyncML Protocol Module. Net Transport Module, Database Module and Application Module. In SyncML Protocol Module, to realize creating and parsing the SyncML packets which will be sent or received, not only based on SRTK, but also improved the SRTK, and added sync thread into this module; In Net Transport Module, to achieve the work of sending and receiving SyncML packet, design and development have been made in detail for GPRS connection and HTTP binding; In Database Module, to realize the management operation for phone book. COM technology has been used to operate POOM; In Application Module, to achieve scalability of UI and the unified management of synchronization setting parameters, namely the design of the interface configuration files and synchronization of configuration files, which has been stored the various parameters of UI and synchronization.(3) PIM Client has been tested in test and business platform, and the analysis and solutions to the problems which was found in testing has been made by the following methods; firstly SyncML Packets must obtained from SyncML server in CMCC, and at the same time NetLog will also be catch by Harvest tool, secondly,we use Microsoft Network Monitor tool to make a comprehensive analysis;finally,based on the analysis results, we begin to lock problems, to suggest solutions and to verify solutions.Finally, the research is concluded with future work and the suggestions are proposed.
