Substrate integrated waveguide has the common advantages of microstrip circuitand metal waveguide, is the best choice of millimeter-wave integrated circuit design infuture. Based on the substrate integrated waveguide technology, millimeter-wave filterswith different structures and different areas are designed in this paper. In order to reducethe area, the most popular three-dimensional packaging technology in current which isalso called Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic technology is used.All of the filters designed in this paper are coupled resonator bandpass filters, andthe three dimensional full-wave electromagnetic field simulation software HFSS is usedfor modeling and simulation. According to the design requirement of the filters, theCAD software Couplefil is used for calculate the required coupling matrixes, anddifferent coupling structures are builded in physical. Models are established forabstracting design parameters, and the curves of design parameters changed withstructure parameters are abstracted through simulation. Using different couplingstructures, combined with the coupling matrixes and the curves obtained, four types ofmillimeter-wave filters with different structures are designed, including planar straightlinear cavity filter, plane folded cavity filter, longitudinal cascading cavity filter, andlongitudinal cascading cross coupling cavity filter. The simulation results show that allthe four types of filters meet the design requirement that the center frequency is40GHz,the bandwidth is2GHz, the return loss is more than15dB in pass band range, theinsertion loss less than2.5dB in pass band range, and the suppression at35GHz and45GHz is more than25dB.
