With the development of society, video surveillance has playing a large part in daily life, security monitoring and people’s lives have been. Digital video surveillance is gradually replacing analog video surveillance. With the development of computer technology and the multimedia technology, video surveillance also to be integrated, networking and multimedia direction widely used in various occasions. In a variety of video surveillance systems, based on the embedded video monitoring is the fastest growing, most promising monitoring system.In this paper, we detailed a video surveillance systems based on ARM+Linux. Our system’s hardware used S3C2410A as the master that it is the core of ARM920T. Using MPG440as Video compression chip, we can compress real-time hardware compression to reduce the task of application programming. We also designed a USB interface about the video data storage module in order to make data backup and post analysis. Our system has been better in both real-time and video image quality than others. Especially our system has a well scalability.In our paper, we first outline the background, significance, and history about video surveillance and its related technologies. Secondly, we proposed system hardware architecture. We carried out Linux migration, MPEG4video compression module and USB hard disk interface module. We described theirs implementation process.In the end, we discussed our system using in remote video monitoring.
