With the development of multimedia technology, video compression coding technology and network communicating technology, digital video monitor system grows up rapidly. The integration of the system, digital video and networking monitor are the acknowledged developing directions of the video monitor system., among all these fields the system that take the embedded video web server as the core has the most developing potential, which adopts embedded real-time multitasking operation system and has the advantage of wide monitoring region, steady and reliable performance, free management and can build complicated monitor network. The paper compiles with the developing trend, taking the computer-room as the application background, and research on the embedded remote monitor system.The design of the system was based on the embedded hardware foundation and the embedded Linux operation system. It adopted the MPEG-4 criterion to compress the real-time images and provided real-time video monitor with embedded real streaming media server, at the same time it used temperature and humidity sensor with high precision to monitor the temperature and humidity of the monitoring environment on real-time. An embedded WEB server was constructed in order to offer a convenient and friendly operating interface to the client. In addition, the system had the function of automatic alarm, which could offer timely and effective alarm when the temperature or humidity was exceeding or the monitoring image was abnormity, thus realized a low-cost universal remote monitor solution.The main tasks of the paper include follows: the build of the embedded Linux; the collection of the video based on Linux; the arithmetic analysis of the MPEG-4 video compression criterion; the clip and implement of the streaming media server based on the embedded Linux; the exploitation of the driver of the Linux devise; the port and application of the embedded database; the build of the embedded web server and the study and implement of the intelligent image recognition. Finally, function testing and performance evaluation was carried out on the device as well as the future research topics were discussed.
