The cost and the efficiency of the entire production system depend on whether the layout is proper or not. In the conventional mode to solve the layout problems, either of the qualitative mode and quantitative model is chosen on most occasions. The application of the quantitative model makes it difficult to quantify the adjacent facilities appropriately. As a result, the production efficiency is reduced. In qualitative mode because all factors, that influence the facility design are used to present proximity, thus making the layout move subjective. This essay attempts to analyze the problems of the facility layout and some solutions to them. The essay first sums up the conventional genetic algorithm, and compares and contrast the various algorithm. In addition, the essay aims to analyze the basic theory of multi-objective genetic algorithm that is used in facility layout. The NPGA, VEGA genetic algorithm were improved and it proposes a new algorithm, set up adjacent region model. At the same time, the three algorithms were used in the facility layout, and make performance assessments. The essay tries to deal with the facility layout problem with the application of genetic algorithm and the consideration of qualitative and quantitative modes. This study will use the genetic algorithm to solve the facility layout problems. With the consideration of the two different attributes of the target, the multi-objective optimization problems are solved. This method saves lots of time and increases the working efficiency.
