WMN(Wireless Mesh Network)is a high-speed and high-capacity network and it isa new type of distributed network and a solution to the “last kilometer” problem.Characterized by self-organization, auto-configuration, self-cure, high frequencyefficiency, wide coverage, sufficient extendibility and reliability, it is originated fromMANET and partly adopted WLAN technology. The route is one of the major featuresof the Mesh network and the key to ensuring proper operation of the net is the routingprotocol on high-efficiency and high-quality communication, it becomes essential bothin theory and in practice that the routing protocol applicable for the wireless Meshnetwork be developed and studied. This thesis is a research into two types of the routing protocols for the wirelessMesh network, active and reactive routing protocol, with detailed analyses of threetypical routing protocols, DSDV, DSR, and AODV. With the assistance of the NS2simulation software, simulated analysis and comparisons are made of functions of thetwo types of routing protocols under static and dynamic environments respectively. Andwith regard to problems with the MAODV routing protocol, the MAODV-RPS routingprotocol is suggested as an improved multicast routing protocol. During the stage ofroute construction, the strategy of that suggestion is to select to put under datatransmission, paths with reliable stability and fewer hop counts; and during the stage ofroute maintenance, it is to secure the active activation of route repair before thediscontinuation of linkage. This thesis makes evaluations of the functions of the MAODV-RPS algorithmthrough simulated experiences, whose results show that MAODV-RPS algorithm fulfillsgood network functions by excelling the MAODV routing protocol in delivery rate, average end-to-end delay, and normalized route control overhead. Thus it is of muchadaptability to the extension of network scale and network load.
