Analysis And Research On Multicast Routing Protocol For Ad Hoc Networks

With the development of wireless technology and the popularization of portable devices, the need for new mobile communication network has increasingly expanding. As a multi-hop, infrastructureless and self-organized network, Ad Hoc network becomes more and more important. Because it doesn't rely on any pre-established infrastructure and can therefore be deployed rapidly, Ad Hoc network is quite suitable to be used in some special situations such as battlefield, disaster recovery situation, mobile meeting, personal communication etc. The research of Ad Hoc network mainly focuses on the fields of media access, routing, multicast routing, power control, quality of service, security and transport layer. Among these, the multicast routing is one of the key technologies of Ad Hoc network.Multicast is a method of transmitting data packets to a group of nodes identified by a single destination address and hence is intended for group-oriented computing. Saving bandwidth and minimizing the payload of forwarding packets are the mainly outstanding characteristics of multicast. This is valuable for Ad Hoc network, because the bandwidth and system resource are limited in Ad Hoc network.Multicast routing protocol for Ad Hoc network is the main research in this thesis. Firstly, the concepts of multicast are introduced while the reason that multicast routing protocols for static network are not suitable for Ad Hoc network is analyzed. Multicast routing protocols for Ad Hoc network are classified and briefly compared. Then MAODV and ODMRP are analyzed in detail, and compared qualitatively and quantitatively by simulation. After that the network protocol stack of Linux OS is introduced, the scheme of implement of MAODV in Linux OS is presented. Finally, the scheme of implement of MAODV is verified by experiments.
