Abstract:Since the end of19th century, China has witnessed investigative reportingfor over a hundreds of years. Originating in the west, investigative reporting attained itsmaturity, with unique Chinese characteristics, after over a hundred of years development.After China opened up to the west and began market economic reforms, the focus ofinvestigative reporting turned from politics to economics. This inspired a number ofeconomic newspaper, such as Caijing Magazine,21st Century Business Herald, and TheEconomic Observer and Century Weekly. All the while, media wast switching fromtraditional print delivery to online sources.Even though the platform has changed, investigative reporting still needs to takesocial responsibility, pursue equal justice, preach goodness, and maintain public interests.However, some reporters are just always noticing the good purpose of investigativereporting and ignoring laws and news rules, which leads to frequent tort issues ininvestigative reporting.Based on tort issues of investigative reporting, the paper mainly discusses how ithappened, why it happened and how to avoid it. Besides, from the current situation ofinvestigative reporting in China, the paper gives an emphasis on journalism, matched bylaw knowledge.Introduction introduces the origin, the significance, the research condition and method.Part one describes the concept and features of investigative reporting tort and itsdevelopment course and current situation in China.Part two introduces the main form of investigative reporting in China and lists similarcases in western press. Part three analyses the main reasons of investigative reporting tort in China with respectto politics and economics, law,Journalistic professionalism and self-cultivation.Part four puts up the solution to investigative reporting tort in China.Conclusion:The positive power of investigative reporting is to give humanistic care tocommunity and let people in adversity be heard. However, it directly affects interestgroups so that the path of investigative reporting is long and hard due to governmentsupervision. We do believe that investigative reporting will play a more important role inChinese civil society. With different events bringing about changes in the law system,reporters will have a greater chance of fulfilling their dreams, bringing fair and balancednews to the publics attention.
