The widely application of long haul optical fiber transmission system provide reliable transport channel for various services. With the development of different IP based new services and applications, it has been an urgent requirement for optical fiber transmission system with high reliability and good protection technology. Considering the common failures such as optical cable cut off and equipment fails, there should be serious consequences. This thesis presents a comprehensive study on protection technologies in optical fiber communication systems, especially on Optical Line Protection (OLP) technology and its designing, planning and engineering issues in Jiangsu telecom40G transmission systems.This thesis presents a brief introduction of OLP technology principle and major techniques, firstly. The applications of OLP in backbone network and equipment characteristics are analyzed. A practical OLP planning and designing for Jiangsu Telecom40G backbone transmission systems is proposed. Based on the theoretical analysis of designing and calculation, the application of OLP system in Jiangsu Telecom is implemented and the40G WDM system obtained well protection.
