Optical fiber communication has been used more and more widely because of its good confidentiality, large bandwidth and other reasons. The optical fiber communication protection system designed in this paper can monitor the communication state in real-time by testing the power of laser. The backup equipment is enabled automatically when the other operate abnormally to ensure the continuous communication, which is of great importance in some cases.The system comprises the host computer and slave computer.The slave one parses and executes the commands from host.lt also takes active measures such as alarming when detecting communication abnormality.Both the hardware and software of the slave device are designed and the function of the PC software is simulated using Matlab. The whole system realized in a single FPGA with minimal peripheral circuits has the features of high integration and small chance of failure with the SOPC solution.The system monitors the communication state by measuring the power of laser.As a result,This paper focuses on the wide range that is from-50dbm to lOdbm and±0.1dbm accuracy of the optical power measurement. The analog circuit has achieved the measurement of current ranging from1nA to10mA and the AD module has obtained15-bit accuracy. The noise sources in PCB are analyzed and tackled with corresponding solutions during layout. After a detailed research of FIR filter, a digital sliding filter is implemented to conquer50HZ power noise. Finally, the test results are analyzed and some future improvement comments are made.
