Sanding production is a common problem which directly affects the actual exploitationrate during the production of oil and gas wells. How to monitor the sand conditions onreal-time becomes a worldwide problem。 The technology of real-time sand-detectingproduction in oil and gas wells is a quantitative method in studying sanding production whichrecently developed in foreign, which uses sensor technology to accurately detect sandingsignals.In this paper, by studying the status quo of sand monitoring sensor in domestic andforeign, and analyzing generation mechanism, characteristics and influencing factors of sandproduction signals, ultimately choose PZT44as sensitive materials after comparing a varietyof properties of piezoelectric materials. The main performance parameter as operatingfrequency, sensitivity and working temperature are also designed. After series of preparatorywork, determine the design proposal of sensor is based on PZT, which includes the design ofacoustic wedge, matching layer, output connector of signals, cable, encapsulation and shell.Take the temperature-resistant and frequency characteristics test of the PZT sensor byrespectively using SDJ405High&Low Temperature heat box and NF Impedance/Gain-phaseAnalyzer ZGA5905, then apply the designed sensor to the entire simulation system to carryout large number of indoor experiments and take field experiments in Shengli Oilfield. Theresults show that the designed sensor has stable performance, high sensitivity, wideapplicable-temperature range and low costs. While the flow rate is3.14m/s, the sandproduction error is only3.8%. It can be adapted to the complex and harsh field environmentssuch as oil and gas wells. The designed sensor compensates for the blank in sand monitoringsensor fields for domestic.
