Acoustic emission (AE) sensor is one of the key devices for acquiring AE information in AE testing. Most AE sensors are piezoelectric transducers. The Finite Element Method (FEM) has been widely applied to engineering structures design and mechanics analysis, so it would be signality to apply FEM to piezoelectric ceramics wafer and piezoelectric fiber composites analysis. In the paper, the FEM is adopted to analyze several factors that affect piezoelectric ceramics wafer and piezoelectric fiber composites performances. Furthermore, FEM is used to design and optimize the configuration, size and characteristics of AE sensor.The main content of this dissertation is following:1. Give a brief introduction of the FEM and the FEM software ANSYS applications in piezoelectric composite materials (PCM) analysis. And presents some commonly process and attentions in the above applications. The general process to analyze and design transducer by using ANSYS software is summarized too.2. With FEM simulation analysis software—ANSYS and modal analysis, the influence of sensor's geometry factor, piezoceramics and polymer's proportion on the resonant frequency of sensor has been analyzed.3. With FEM simulation analysis software—ANSYS and dynamic analysis , the influence law of work size (sensor's thickness, especially) etc. for frequency response of piezoelectricity sensors is introduced. And design several forms sensors which are of wide frequency band.4. Through change the configuration of piezoelectric fiber reinforcement and polymer matrix, a type of orthotropic piezoelectric composite material (OPCM) elements is designed. With the 1-1 orthotropic piezoelectric composite material elements made by ourselves, a test is made to testify the orthotropic character.
