Welding technology was first developed at the end of the19th century and beginning of twenty century as an important metal processing technology. Welding is one of the most important procedures of production hot working in equipment manufacturing industry, especially the heavy equipment manufacturing industry. However the current domestic welding device and system automation is at a low level, and welding production management and quality supervision and monitoring is not digitized. The workers who are responsible for the welding process and quality testing can’t realize the quality problem immediately, they can only inspect if they are qualified when the welding is completed. A large number of production process data and information cannot be tracked and analyzed. In order to improve the welding quality, we proposed the design of intelligent welding quality online monitoring system.This paper firstly introduced the welding manufacturing development, and analyzed the demand of intelligent welding information system. Then, in view of the need, we put forward the intelligent welding information platform structure and the specific design scheme of on-line monitoring system for a welding workshop.In this project I mainly completed the data acquisition system hardware and software design, wireless communication system design, OPC DA server software design and configuration software design work. And the system realized the welding process of real-time monitoring, fault alarm, the formation of historical databases and report forms, remote access functions.After the successful test, the online monitoring system has been applied to the welding workshop, which improved the quality of welding process effectively. At the end of the paper, a summary of the work and prospect of the future was given.
