Pulse signal generator is a kind of pulse generator that is able to generatemonopulse, dualpulse, group pulse and pulse sequences, which can serve as thetrigger signal or test signal of radar, short-range wireless image transmission,communication, radio transmitter and receiver, etc. It is oscillator that significantlyaffects the whole performance of pulse signal generator. The oscillators being sold inthe market are made with Large Scale Integration (LSI), such as FPGA (FieldProgrammable Gate Array), CPLD (Complex Programmable Logic Device).Thoughthe pulse that its width can reach nanosecond has the advantage of high precision, thecost prohibits its widespread use. What’s more, the pulse signal that its width ismicrosecond level is still widely used, so the design of signal generator (microsecondlevel) using low-cost components has practical significance.After thoroughly analysis the principle of pulse signal generator, experimentalapparatus with various operation modes is fabricated, give out signal generator(microsecond level) which bases on Small Scale Integration (SSI). The experimentalapparatus consists of printed-circuit board and chassis. While the printed-circuit boardis designed with the software of AD9, the chassis is designed with AutoCAD.Extensive test is conducted based on the above experimental apparatus. Theexperimental data indicate that the circuit modules and performance index can meetthe demand of the design.During the design and experimental verification of the pulse signal generator, weput forward the following innovations.1. Practical performance index is introduced with serious scientific attitude whileexperimental apparatus is designed adopting the technology of SSI(Small ScaleIntegration),which has low power consumption and high stability. It not only achievesthe desired function, but also reduces the cost.2. In order to solve the problems of narrow output pulse width and pulse recurrence frequency, based on combinational timing circuits, a solution is proposedto optimize the output pulse. The experimental results verify the feasibility of theabove circuits.3. Altering the operation mode of pulse signal generator by changing the inputsignal of shaping circuit or oscillator, we can obtain a wide range of pulse signals.Thus widely extends its application.
