In this information age, educational informationization is being greatly promoted in the countries all over the world, they all try to use the modem information technology based on computer, multimedia and network communication as much as possible in the educational process. Along with the rapid development of educational informationization. the education and teaching organizations of all levels and kinds in our country have built up more and more educational and experimental places such as multimedia classroom, multimedia laboratory, etc. which are of informationization characteristics.In these places, the computer-based multimedia platform, with the projector, projection screen, microphone and loudspeaker as a supplement, make a whole information teaching equipment. It is a pity that because the mouse and keyboard are connected to the mainframe computer mainly by wire, teacher, the user of advanced equipment, is always tied to around computer, and has only a small activity space behind multimedia platform. This not only make it inconvenient for teacher to move forward and backward, but also influence teaching effect. Although wireless mouse or wireless keyboard can change this state, the former has higher cost, and the latter is inconvenient to carry. If the wireless remote control pointer combining many functions of mouse and keyboard in one. having the advantages of being lower in cost, light to carry, and easy to use could be designed, the problem would be solved effectively. Embedded technology can make the desire become a reality.Embedded technology is the technology designing and developing specific computer system which can satisfy strict demands in function, cost, volume, power and reliability for applications. It is widely used in the fields of automotive electronics, consumer electronics, medical technology, education and research, industrial production and national defense military, ect.Wireless remote control pointer is an application result of embedded technology in education and teaching. Its wide application marks the progress of teaching means and is in accord with demands of educational informationization construction. It can therefore be said that wireless remote control pointer is the product of integration of vigorously developed embedded technology with the educational informationization megatrend.This paper analyzes the functional requirement to wireless remote control pointer, and then the overall design scheme is put forward on this basis. The paper explains the principles of Infrared remote control and RF remote control in accordance with the problem how to select signal transmission mode between pointer remote controller and pointer receiver, and compares the two modes of remote control with each other. Considering that RF remote control signal can spread longer distance and is difficult to be sheltered, RF remote control is chosen. The paper explains the principles of serial communication, USB communication and communication from USB to serial in accordance with the problem how to select signal transmission mode between pointer receive and computer. By comparing the complexity of program development for the three communication modes, the communication mood from USB to serial is chosen finally. The communication mood requires that the microcomputer software running in the computer coordinates with the receiver. Up to this, the overall design scheme of wireless remote control pointer has been confirmed as to be made up of remote controller, receiver and microcomputer software, and the programming language and development tool have been determined.The paper introduces the software and hardware’s design and implementation of wireless remote control pointer on overall design scheme. In hardware design, considering performance and cost, AT89S52embedded microcontroller is selected as the core of the receiver, and the ready RF remote control transceiver module is chosen. In software design, the principle and developing thought of receiver program and microcomputer software functions are expatiated in detail, and the main implementation codes are provided.Finally, experiments and tests of wireless remote control pointer are performed. The results showed that all functions are operating correctly, and can satisfy the desires for functions.The wireless remote control pointer designed and implemented by the paper can emancipate teachers from the side of computer, makes them have close contact with students and promotes the communion between teachers and students. The pointer is not only an important teaching tool of the information age, but also a useful auxiliary tool in every speech occasion.
