With the increasing focus on research and application of the Internet of Things (IOT) technology, IOT has become the third wave of world information industry succeeding Internet and mobile communication networks. Under this backgournd and given the requirements of transportation of special cargo, we designed and implemented a system which can monitor the temperature and moisture of the cargo in transportation in this thesis. The work is considered an exploration of applying IOT technology in logistics domain.The whole system is consists of three main parts:node, sink and remote monitoring center. Nodes are installed on the cargo to be monitored, which is used to collect information on temperature and moisture information in cargo transportation and later send the data to the sink via short-distance wireless communication media. Sinks are used to collect data received from the nodes, display the collected data on-site, and perform data processing. Additionally, the GPS moduled installed on a sink can obtain geographic information, and the sink can communicate with the remote monitoring center via GPRS. Given the data obtained from the sinks, at the remote monitoring center, one can retrieve the information on the amount of cargo to detect stealth, and check the temperature and moisture of the cargo as well.The work of this thesis centers on the location monitoring system composed of nodes and sinks and the design of the GPS module and GPRS based remote communication. The local monitoring system can display temperature, moisture and location information, and it can record the operations on electronic locks and store monitored data as well, which can help the on-site people in cargo monitoring.The system leverages digital high-precision sensoring technology and the latest low-power short-distance wireless communication technology, and utilizes embedded microprocessors featured by low-power and multiple working mode, and adoptes special fire stand power source and low-power GPS modules. Experiments show that the system works properly. Stable wireless communication within100meters can be achieved between the nodes and the sinks. The system is fire stand, low-power, space saving, and it has good flexibility and high capacity of resisting disturbance, so it can be used in many different application environments.
