Virtual reality, with the basic features of immersive and interactive, is the use of simulation technology which is to build advanced human-machine interface in computer. It generates realistic use of modern high-tech vision, hearing, touching integrated simulation environment, thus give the observers a feeling of reality. It is because the strong ability of human-computer interaction and realistic display of three-dimensional environment, virtual reality technology can be widely used in fields such as3D games, simulation training, roaming scenarios and military science. Modeling technology is the basis of virtual reality. Through the implication of computer graphics image processing technology, it is to construct the three-dimensional simulation object model and reproduce the real environment. Then for the purpose of human-computer interaction, it achieves interactivity in the virtual environment systems. As the basis of virtual reality, the quality of model has a great impact on the virtual systems. With the development of large parallel processors, graphics and image processing technology has been greatly improved. This does not only provide it with a powerful engine, but also offers a more extensive study and application of space for virtual reality technology.As a set of large, sophisticated, mechanized construction equipment, Slurry Balance Tunnel Boring Machine is safe, reliable, fast, high quality equipment. It can be widely used in the construction of subway, highway, railway, gas, water, tunnels and other large underground projects. While it controls the excavation face not to collapse, it also digs the hole and conveys the soil in the mean time. In the rear shield the erector focused on the formation of the concrete segment while the grouting systems do the grouting work after the implementation. In this way, it can avoid the disturbance, which is bad for the construction of the tunnel. As an electrical product with highly sophisticated structure and high automation, its design has the rigorous requirements on kinematics capability, dynamic capability and mechanical structural capability. However, due to its unique construction environment, we cannot know the detailed work of construction and tackle with all the issues. Therefore, we constructed a visual simulation system with good immersion and realistic feeling which can be used in the field of SB-TBM for virtual display and stuff training. Bring virtual reality technology into the field of large construction machinery, has a great meaning to the construction of tunnel building.The main content of the paper is the construction of working environment where slurry balance tunnel boring machine worked. Being Φ11.182m SB-TBM as the research object, we assembly the models of it according to the parent-child relationship in purpose of the motion relations in Pro/E. Using polygon modeling, vector modeling and texture mapping techniques to create models of TBM based on Openflight file format. Then made a study on the set of DOF node, which can be used while the TBM machine is working. Made a study on the construction of wide range terrain, and build the model of urban envinment. Practice the optimizing work of data based on virtual environment, established the SB-TBM visual simulation environment based on Vega, then achieve the aim of real-time interactivity.
