With the development of computer graphics technology, 3D figure of terrain has more advantageous than plane map. Visualization and building technology of 3D terrain is one of hot topics in computer graphics research, having strong science purport and applying to many fields such as military affairs, education and publishing etc.This paper analyses in detail building technology of 3D terrain, and proposing research and implementation of interactive 3D terrain building technology based on visual sense. It implements the idea of 3D terrain building from part to whole, with the driving of user's visual sense, using the measure of graphics operating under the visualization environment. Then this paper implements an application soft based on this building technology of 3D terrain.The following work has been done in this paper: First this paper analyses in detail the technology idea of the interactive 3D terrain building technology based on visual sense, then implements building of 3D terrain by the measure of non-programming and visualization. A visualization building system of 3D terrain is been constructed, using VRML as the measure of 3D graphics display. Different function of operation modules are partitioned, and mouse click operation is defined, and all these different mouse operations are encapsulated in vary program modules. Then user can build 3D terrain by using mouse click operation simply. Many kinds of detail operation tools are provided in this system, so that user can edit 3D terrain neatly. Object store that has many kinds of natural scenes and manual buildings is designed in this system, enriching the expressive force of 3D terrain. Texture is provided to enhance the simulation of 3D terrain.The 3D terrain that is built using this visualization building system is applied widely to territory programming, military electronic sand table etc.
