EPON (Ethernet passive optical network) is the Ethernet passive opticalnetwork (PON) technology integration. EPON uses the point to multipointstructure, passive fiber optic transmission mode, offer a wide variety of businesson the Ethernet. EPON technology as the use of active devices can be connected toexisting access network operators "seamless" connectivity, it provides low-cost,high-speed, large-bandwidth client access, and may be implemented in the contextof various group; Provides voice services, data services, and video services, suchas a full service access.This paper originated from XAC research project, based on the XFcommunication network continued development of internal demand in the future,on optical access network technology in telecom operators to explore practicalapplications, research, with EPON technology construction of replacement ofADSL technology XF optical access network.Paper first describes FTTxdevelopment at home and abroad, followed by passive optical network based onEthernet, summed up the current mainstream of FTTx technology, PONtechnology development process, and briefly describes the basic principles, keytechnologies and technical advantages of EPON. Papers then were made to themodel, application of EPON ONU classification detail, made for XFcommunication network access mode of the new community and rehabilitationcommunity.Papers focused on in-depth study of EPON network design in the process ofimplementing, planning principles, through planning, network planning,bandwidth OLT access, ODN plan and other key points of the implementation ofthe project and algorithm for conclusion, network access requirementscorresponding to the different network planning and design scheme. Last authorthrough is responsible for of XF families area FTTB reconstruction engineering,more describes has the engineering of group network planning, and devicedeployment and the engineering programme of implementation, and with EPONtechnology implementation FTTB access way of network structure, and devicecomposition and the engineering test, specific work; and combination reality,resolved has site construction in the exists of other problem, through variousprofessional test, the engineering full meet technology indicators requirements. Optical access is the inevitable trend of access network, with the growingmaturity of EPON technology, falling costs and gradually improve device features,EPON technology will be more widely used at home and abroad.
