In the wireless sensor network, because of the restriction of the node energy, calculation and processing power, and communication bandwidth, etc., and thecomplementing of the power to the node is difficult, how to prolong the lifetime of thenetwork has become a hot spot problem in this research field. This paper studies the survival time of the sensor network, analysis of therelationship between the routing protocols and the energy consumption of the node. Onthe basis of the current more study about the clustering routing protocol, the thesisproposes a new algorithm, which first layers the network, then according to the layerwhere the nodes located and the residual energy of the nodes, choosing out thecandidate cluster heads of the network. By increasing the number of the candidatecluster heads in the low-layer nearby sink appropriately, it ensures the energy balance ofthe nodes in the whole network. After the competition of the candidate cluster headwithin a radius of its competition, select the final cluster head. In the data transferprocess, when the non-cluster-head can convey the message to sink directly accordingto their location without clustering, the energy consumption of cluster-head is reduced, the communication load is balanced and the lifetime of the network is prolonged.
