Wireless sensor and actor networks (WSANs) derived from wireless sensornetworks (WSNs). The actors allow WASNs collect data as well as handle emergency. However they also present more research challenges, such as energy consumption ofthe networks, real-time communication, and coordination work and so on.Anenergy-efficient directed clustering algorithm (EEDC) used in multi-actor model andtwo kinds of actor deployment strategies meeting different application environmentsare proposed in order to balance the sensors’ loads in the data transfer process.EEDC deciles the monitoring regional based on the number of actor, and theuniform development of the actors could reduce the energy consumption of datatransmission from the sensors to the actors. The clustering process is event-driven inthe local network from event area to the actor. The cluster head (CH) based on theenergy, location and frequency of CH selects members according to its neighbors’position. The number of working-sensors and data conflicts caused by multi-eventdetection can be reduced through data fusion process and event area judgment process.Simulation results show that EEDC can extend the network lifetime and reduce datalatency effectively. The first actor deployment strategy based on the hexagonal using a centralizedmethod regards the control range of actor as a regular hexagon and calculates thenumber of actor required to completely coverage the region and their re-deployedlocations base on the location and shape of the monitored area. Simulation results showthat this strategy can achieve the seamless coverage of the entire region of the actorand be able to maintain the connectivity between the actors. The second actor deployment strategy divides the actor control range based on theVoronoi diagram and calculates re-deployed locations base on the sensors’ location. The simulation results show that the strategy can achieve approximate uniformdeployment of actors.
