Mobile AdHoc network—MANET is a special wireless communication networkwhich is self-organized by mobile nodes without any centralized administration. As themobile terminal is powered by batteries with limited energy and there is little range toimprove its capability, how to save the energy consumption becomes a global hotspot ofMANET.The multicast routing protocol and energy issue in MANET are studied in thisthesis, especially a detailed analysis for MAODV and energy-conserving mechanisms ismade. At the same time, an energy-based multicast routing algorithm is given, which isimplemented in MAODV to optimize its route discovery and route maintiananceprocedure. The main work of the dissertation is as follow:(1)The theory of MAODV isdiscussed, the current energy-efficient mechanisms and protocols in MANET are alsoanalyzed.(2)An energy-based multicast routing algorithm is presented, there are fourparts: a hybrid energy consumption model, the definition for the energy cost of a path, the selective forwarding mechanism and modified routing strategy based on energy.(3)The energy-based multicast routing algorithm is applied in MAODV, which makes itbecome an energy-efficient multicast routing protocol—EMAODV. Finally, severalrelative simulations for the improved EMAODV are made with NS2. The simulationresult shows that EMAODV is ascendant not only in conserving energy consumptionand protecting low energy nodes, but also in controlling the route expenses andprolonging the lifetime of the mobile AdHoc network. |
