With the development of wireless communication, one new network infrastructure names as ad hoc is proposed. Fixed base station is not necessary in ad hoc so as to make the deployment flexible and simple and improve the robustness a lot. There is no coordinated node in ad hoc network and all nodes act as the same role to construct one multi-hop network. The flexibility of the network allows the node fast mobility and the network infrastructure to change quickly. Hence, the existed routing protocol can’t meet the new infrastructure well and it is strongly required to design one new routing protocol to meet the requirement in ad hoc.In the first part of this thesis current situation, development and application of ad hoc is introduced. In the second part, we study aodv protocol used in ad hoc in detail. At last, we propose on advanced adov protocol called reADOV to handle the disadvantage of existed adov. Aiming at problems of heavy routing overhead and the uneven energy of every nodes which are brought by traditional AODV routing protocols when using the expanding ring search route discovery algorithm,a new algorithm is proposed.According to information obtained in the previous search in the process of routing requests, so that the redundant node is in a quiescent state and does not participate in the next route discovery. At the same time,it considers the energy of nodes as much as possible so that the low energy nodes silent balanced node energy. This paper shows that the improved algorithm effectively extend the network lifetime and improve the packet delivery ratio through the simulation based on NS2.
