Laser drilling is a very early technology used for industrial processing,and has a widerange of applications in the national defense science and technology, chemical industry,electronic circuit, instrument, medical equipment, foundry industry, and other fields. As thedevelopment of science and technology, the market put forward higher request to quality anddiameter of the laser drilling, and the existing laser drilling ways already fail to meetdemands.In this article, we put forward helical drilling ways based on the rotating optical system.In the introduction of the principle and physical process of laser helical drilling, we findlaser helical drilling restrains the splash of liquid metal, minimizing the effect of plasma viatwo dimensions of concentration and time. Theoretically, we proved that helical drilling canget better holes quality than impact drilling. As a typical light bending system, three-wedgeoptical system is chosen to be the rotation optical system of helical drilling because of itssimple operation and easy control. By the ray tracing of the three-wedge optical system,getthe scanning track on the work plane, calculate the parameter expression of holes and choosethe appropriate light wedge system based on the needs of holes reversely.Finally, we had helical drilling experiment, and compare the results with impact drilling.Obviously, helical drilling improves the quality of the holes in roundness, entrance taper,recast layer, and so on. Analyzing the experimental results and compared with theoreticalvalues, there is a good agreement. Although the shortcoming of experimental equipment andsome other reasons make tolerance, the result is satisfactory.
