Lightning monitoring and warning system research, has a very important significanceon the electric power, the national defense, forestry, aviation, energy, communicationsand other industry. This paper, based on the project background of the lightning detection, the analysis of the thunder and lightning signal waveform characteristics, the detectionsystem’s hardware, designed and realized an efficient and real-time PCI bus datatransmission unit, and put forward a software and hardware architecture, applyingdistributed computing technology into signal processing.First, analyzed the characteristics of lightning signal and estimate the data flow rateof the lightning signal waveform, combined with the performance analysis of the PCI bus, confirmed that the PCI bus technology could meet the need of data transmission. Then didthe demand analysis of data transmission for lightning detection station hardware, the dataflow and the data types, select PCI9054chip as the data transmission interface, andconfirmed the transmission mechanism of the data transmission unit. Then, Cut the PCI data transmission unit into three parts as PCI driver, local FPGAmodule, Windows application, designed, realized and debugged the three partsrespectively, and finally, debugged and analyzed the whole unit.At last, the distributed computing technology was applied in this lightning detectionstation. Analyzed the advantages of the distributed computing technology, by using themature technology of the LAN and Microsoft corporation’s WCF, WWF technology, presented a distributed computing unit solutions.
