It is well known that detection of the weak signal under the low-level-light conditionis very difficult to accomplish by ordinary camera, for under the low-level-lightcondition, the illumination up on the surface of the target is quite low and signal of thetarget can only be acquired from the nature light reflected from the target surface orthe light generated internally from the target. The appearance of the night visiontechnology improves people’s vision at night apparently. Low-level-light television, asa branch of the night vision technology, can realize the observation of the target at along distance in the extreme low illumination environment by utilization of the highsensitivity detector, which is mainly the conjunction of the charge coupled device(CCD) and the television technology.This paper presents a new high sensitivity low-level-light camera utilizing highsensitivity CCD as the core component and FPGA to generate the time sequence ofthe CCD and the system administration unit. The detecting sensitivity of the camera issignificantly improved by changing the exposure time of the CCD and magnifying thesignal gain. The function unit of the camera is modularized together with thepresentation of the frame. The hardware and logical control unit are detailed. The keysignal of the camera was tested and the problems during the debug together with theirsolutions are presented. Shooting star experimentã€dark field noise test and imagequality test were taken by changing the exposure time and the gain. The Shooting starexperiment was taken to test the sensitivity of the camera, which is determined by thelowest visual magnitude of the star observed by the camera. The dark field noise testwas analyzed to illustrate the noise feature of the whole system. Meanwhile, everyfeature of the camera was verified experimentally, and the results show a perfectmarch with the requirement. |
