As a high-tech, low-light-level night vision device including night vision goggles, began to develop at the end of the World War II, which play an important role in improving the capabilities of army's operation around-the-clock. Since the key devices of low-light-level night vision device have been considered as the core secrets and been blockaded by the developed countries, the home-made night vision device all used the mechanical shutter which is controlled and driven by the electric signal. Although in recent years, electronic shutter technology has been greatly applied, whether or not to enhance performance of the night vision device and put into applications in our countries, we need to make further research to improve the shutter technology of image intensifier. This paper firstly makes a simple introduction of the working principle of the night vision device and the image intensifier, and then describes the working principle of electronic shutter. Considering the existing second-generation image intensifier exhibits the disadvantages of short life expectancy and the low dynamic range of the opto-electrical conversion/electro-optical conversion, the paper puts forward a new method which can realize the gate-controlled circuit in the technology of electronic shutter. Finally, the paper realizes the gate-controlled circuit with the adjustable duty cycle ranging from 0 to 100%, the pulse delay time of the rising edge and the falling edge less than and equal to 30 nanoseconds, and several key technology breakthroughs in micro-miniaturization and power consumption, this paves a brand-new way to enhance the performance of the image intensifier.
