Temperature is a basic physical quantity, which is the most common andimportant process parameters. Both industrial and agricultural production orscientific research and national defense modernization are inseparable fromthe temperature measurement. Temperature measurement technique is oneof the highest frequency application technology of modern testingtechnology. Fluorescence optical fiber temperature measurement technologyas a new type of optical fiber sensing technology is great concerned by manyresearchers for its anti-electromagnetic interference, high voltage insulation,stable and reliable, high accuracy, high sensitivity, small size and easynetworking and other characteristics.The main contents of this paper from the National Science andTechnology973project (Grant No.613106),focus on the practicalapplication of the fluorescence optical fiber temperature sensor. Though thetheoretical analysis, system design and application of technology, wecombine the research with the specific requirements of engineering and havemade innovative achievements in the fields of high-precision measurementof fluorescence optical fiber temperature sensor and its System theory,design and application. The paper is divided into five chapters, including:Chapter1:We summarized the status of the optical fiber temperaturesensor and focused on the fluorescent optical fiber temperature sensor on thebase of looking a large number of English literatures. Then the researchbackground and main content were introduced.Chapter2: To design the fluorescent optical fiber temperature sensingsystem, we detailed analysed the luminescence mechanism of fluorescentmaterials, discussed the basic principles and characteristics of fluorescencethermometry, and analysed the characteristics of the basic components of the fluorescent optical fiber temperature sensing system.Chapter3: The complete temperature measurement system was designedbased on the principle of the temperature measurement of fluorescencelifetime, which including the determination of the overall program, selectionof the stimulation source and fluorescent materials, designing of the opticalsystem, designing of the sensor probe and designing of electrical system, andso on. Then the stability and practicality have been verified throughexperiments.Chapter4: The methods and strategies to improve the system accuracywere presented. By analysis of the factors which effects the accuracy of thesystem, we designed the reasonable solutions to improve the accuracy of thesystem and make the system achieve the best performance in practicalapplication.Chapter5: The specific applications of fluorescent optical fibertemperature sensor in engineering have been explained more detailed, suchas the induced current measurement of EED, the safety testing of lithiumbattery and the temperature monitoring of power system. Then comparedwith the conventional temperature sensors, the fluorescence optical fibertemperature sensor was better used in engineering.
