The Development And Implementation Of A Performance Evaluation System For Software R&D Industry

The core competence of a software R&D company usually comes from its teamof technical staff. However, sometimes the management of the technical team is a bigproblem for the company managers. Whether this problem can be solved is veryimportant because it affects the motivation of the staff and even more the companyculture in a large part.The thesis aims to provide a solution for the companies vexed by such problem.The solution is based on a model of performance evaluation for the technical team. Aswe know, performance evaluation is a big concern for many company managers andthere do be some theories nowadays. But many of the existing theories are lack ofpracticality, especially for software R&D companies. In the research, we implementeda model that is based on the quantitative analysis on the profit and cost of either adepartment or an individual project. Different from the other industries, the cost of asoftware R&D company comes mainly from the human cost and the expenses. Byclassifying such costs into departments or projects, we can compute out the profits ofa department, a project and even the whole company.In addition, a software system is developed in the research, with which the HRmanager of the company can carry out a quantitative, fair and reasonable performanceevaluation with a high efficiency. The system is based on the concepts of profit centerand cost center. It is not only a performance evaluation platform but provides a seriesof tools such as salary computation, statistical analysis on the finance data，and so on.Furthermore, an interface is implemented between the system and the OA (OfficeAutomation) system. The two systems can be integrated seamlessly into anenterprise-level solution.
