IT department has played more and more important role in today’s world and companies,especially in the cloud computing, big data analysis and even business analysis. At the sametime, IT has already been the basic element of company. Problems like maintenance, storage,backups, data security, data integrity and data protection became the most critical parts intoday’s IT construction.Shanghai Airline is one of the largest local airline company. Daily business operationsare based on various IT infrastructures and IT systems such as Flight Operation ControlSystem, AFTN/STA Message System, ACARS Data Chain and etc. It is a big challenge forthe IT department to maintain these critical systems, especially the disaster recovery (DR)management. Although the company has established a IT information disaster recoverysystem, due to lacking of hardware protection and appropriate software, it was not reliableenough; There are many defects and shortcomings in these subsystems that could be furtherimproved. In order to fight against various disaster risks, protect the integrity of thecompany’s system and business critical data, as well as reduce the disaster impacts, the mosteffective way is to analyze the weakness of old disaster recovery system, and build up a newhigh-available disaster recovery system.This article designed a new information system DR plan based on the popularvirtualization and backup technology; With IBM and DELL server hardware platforms inShanghai Airline, using Oracle HA cluster technique to protect database, using IBMPowerVM and VMWARE VSPHERE Virtualization technique to backup kernel applications,using IBM TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager) and NIM (Network Installation Manager) technique to provide more effective operation system and database backup and restoremethods;The article also redesigned the model of the company disaster recovery system, listed allthe potential basic limitations in the implementation of the systems. By the actual businesssystem disaster recovery project and research method through the theories and practice, verifythe DR design model, and elaborate the contents of business DR system for this company.This article focus on below four important points:(1) The background and meaning of building up Shanghai Airline DR system.(2) The effectiveness of the DR model base on the IBM PowerVM, Oracle HA, IBMTSM and NIM technique.(3) The actual examples of using of the model and its actual implementation.(4) The results of comparing with old DR system.The achievement of this article is that analyzing and concluding the commoncharacteristics of business system DR requirements, building up a DR logical model whichmeets the actual DR requirements for Shanghai Airline business system without increasingany hardware resource. Through the new model implementation, a model of informationsystem disaster prevention and recovery has been demonstrated successfully, which couldalso be used in another area in Shanghai Airline about the IT disaster prevention andrecovery.The main objective of this article is to analyze and research the development of the ITinfrastructure, like using Oracle HA cluster, IBM PowerVM, VMWARE VSPHEREVirtualization, IBM TSM and NIM. Compared with old DR model, it is determined that thenew designed DR model will be very useful for the construction of Shanghai Airline DRsystem.
