This paper studies the multi-path signal delay estimation which is one of the keytechnologies of passive positioning system based on external radiation source. Theaccuracy of external radiation signal delay estimation largely determines the accuracy ofpassive positioning system. When the signal is narrow-band signal, it is necessary to findhigh-resolution time delay estimation method. The first two Chapters briefly review the development of the time delay estimationmethods and focus on the EM method and the WRELAX method.Chapter III researches the MUSIC delay estimation method based on sub-space. TheMUSIC method is used in the time-delay estimation in the same way of the MUSICmethod used in DOA Estimation. In addition, this chapter highlights the reduceddimension of MUSIC delay estimation method and elaborates the steps in great detail. Inthe same time, this chapter shows a large number of the simulation results of the reduceddimensions MUSIC method under a variety of different settings. The fourth chapter proposes a new initiative method called the difference MUSICdelay estimation method, that method greatly improves the estimation performance of theMUSIC delay estimation method in the condition when the direct wave amplitude is largerthan the scattered wave. In the same time, Chapter IV combines the beam-space MUSICdelay estimation method with the aforementioned methods with the simulation results ofthe new algorithm. The last Chapter reviews the full text and lists the future Research contents. At last, this chapter raised some issues probably faced in the practical applications of the MUSICdelay estimation method.
