The explosive growth of wireless network has posed new issues and challenges for anti-multipath-fading technology (AMFT). In order to improve the capacity of communication systems and restrain co-channel interference or intersymbol interference, we mainly adopt the technologies of source coding and channel coding, channel equalization, multi-user detection, diversity, smart antenna, etc, to counteract the negative effects of multipath propagation at the physical layer of wireless network. Most of AMFTs need the knowledge of direction-of-arrival (DOA) or delay of signal. The multipath signal parameter estimation is a very important factor in achieving AMFT. It has always drawn a considerable attention of many experts in information theory, control theory, signal processing, and so on. In recent years, with the development of space-time signal processing, AMFT has been supplied with effective tools, but at the same time, a new problem of multipath signal parameter estimation comes into being. After analyzing features and performance of multipath signal parameter estimation algorithms in wireless network environments, we find several shortcomings in the existing multipath signal parameter estimation algorithms, such as:(1) The process of the existing algorithms is complex. MUSIC (multiple singnal classification)-like algorithms require eigenvalue decomposition (EVD) and peak search. ESPRIT (estimation signal parameters via rotational invariance techniques)-like algorithms need twice EVDs.(2) For joint DOA and delay estimation (JADE), because of vectorization (column stacking), Khatri-Rao product and Kronecker product, the dimension of the data matrix is increased, which influences real-time processing seriously.(3) MUSIC-like algorithms only use the eigenvectors of data matrix to estimate signal parameters without making full use of the information of...
