As the development of power and electronic technology and the growth requirement ofthe market, electrical equipments are developing rapidly to miniaturization, lower powerconsumption and higher efficiency. As important part of electrical equipments, powersupplies have to meet the requirement of the performance and technology of the market.Compared to traditional power supplies, such as linear power supplies, switching powersupplies have been researched by many researchers because of their advantages such asefficiency lower consumption and miniaturization.In this paper, the theory, system structure and evolution of switching power supplieshave been discussed a lot. More attention is paid to the method and technology of pulsemodulation. A switching power supply system based on TOP-Switch series IC wasdesigned utilizing PWM. Peripheral circuits of the IC such as clamp circuit, protect circuitwere designed and a power system whose efficiency is more than82%, light load efficiencyis more than80%and no-load power is less than100mw was obtained. What’s more, testand analysis was finished in this paper. and some of test and analysis was taken.Consequently, This power supply works at a high frequency of132Hz,and the range of theduty cycle is up to78%. The range of the temperature for operation is-40℃~120℃.The integral structure of a switching power supply was designed base on thecharacteristic of PWM method and the TOP-Switch IC, and the circuits for champing,feedback, ripple rejection and so on are designed as well. At last, a switching power systembased on TOP-Switch and the PCB layout was obtained utilizing Altium Designer Release10, and test and analysis was taken.
