Design And Implementation Of An Embedded VOD System

As the computer networks as well as the streaming media technology have made greatprogress, the unitary type of media could no longer meet people’s needs which leads to the rapidgrowth and good application of VOD(video on demand) system. The so-called VOD is thatvideo can be played according to the needs of the people. VOD is a product of computertechnology, network technology, multimedia technology development and is a new informationservice, which gets rid of the shackles of traditional video by time limit, figures out the problemthat people can’t enjoy the programs whatever they want at any time. with the progress of theembedded technology, VOD system based on embedded has grown up.After the detailed study and analysis about VOD system based on embedded, this papermade design and implementation for the system from the point of application.First, this paper described the key technology of VOD, the characteristics of streamingmedia technology and then introduced the flow and coding technology which frequently used inStreaming media technology. Various of protocols in VOD had been researched more deeply,especially the RTSP protocol which used in the communicate between the sever and the client.And video compression and networking technologies were briefly introduced. Then, accordingto some of the requirements from the VOD to the video server, this article told the installationand configuration process of the server, analyzed connection between the server and client aswell as different protocols on the link, and studied the different connection modes among theservers. Next, the entire system frame of the VOD client was presented, and the differentmodules within the client were analyzed. In order to support a variety of video formats, Videoformat was decoded and converted, focusing on audio and video decoding process, and a specificanalysis was given to the direct flow of the data of the client.At last, the corresponding test wasgiven to the system. we also analyzed the problems encountered in the structures of the entiresystem and pointed out their flaws.The features of this paper include: According to the current popular characteristics of theembedded system, by combining the streaming media technology with the embedded systemand using relevant communication protocol, the real-time transmission and control of VOD hasbeen achieved.
