With the continuous development of Multi-beam Bathymetry technology, theperformance of Multi-beam Bathymetry System becomes more powerful and better, such ashigher-resolution, wider-coverage and real-time-displaying. In the meantime, higherperformance makes Multi-beam Bathymetry system have to deal with larger data-quantity andfaster data-rate during the working time. So, the data-storage system of Multi-beamBathymetry system requires to be improved, its data storage capacity and data transfer rateshould be enhanced, and data transmission precision also needs to be guaranteed. In responseto these demands, an embedded hard disk data storage system which uses SOPC (System Ona Programmable Chip) technology and based on Altera-FPGA (Field Programmable GateArray) and NIOS II soft-CPU is researched and designed in this paper. The data storagesystem which uses IDE-Disk as storage media has implemented ATA/ATAPI-6protocol anddata transmission function on the physical layer by designing IDE interface controller withFPGA logic circuits. In addition, the data can be stored into IDE-Disk in FAT32file formatwhich based on FAT32file system for the RTOS (Real Time Operating System) uc/OS-II thatembedded in NIOS II, the FAT32data-files are convenient to be operated and managedwithout using PC.The main contents researched in this paper can be generally divided into two parts:hardware design and embedded software development.(1) The hardware designed in this paper includes PCB (Printed Circuit Board) design andthe development of FPGA logic circuits. Firstly, PCB design finishes the circuit schematicdiagramming and the PCB hand-painted, welds and debugs the board, then constructs thewhole hardware entity platform of the embedded data storage system for IDE-Disk. Secondly,FPGA logic circuits development completes the data storage system’s building and generating,designs IDE interface controller and logic functional modules of CY7B923/CY7B933whichbased on Hotlink (High Speed Optical Transceiver Link) protocol.(2) The embedded software developed in this paper implements the embedded FAT32file system based on uc/OS-II, finishes the design and implementation of IDE-Disk devicedriver on IDE interface physical layer. Ultimately, the data storage system can save data in thefile format which makes data-files easy to be managed and operated.All contents designed in this paper, including hardware design and embedded softwaredevelopment, are completely tested by function simulation and system debugging. The test results verify that the design program of embedded IDE interface disk data-storage systembased on FPGA&NIOS II, which proposed in this paper for catering to demands ofMulti-beam Bathymetry System, are totally correct and reliable. And the results alsodemonstrate the accuracy of the data transfer plans based on Hotlink protocol.
