Wireless sensor network is an application-based wireless network, it consists a large number of micro-sensors with perception, computing capacity and communication capabilities in a specific area. It has wide application prospects in the field of military, medicl, business, environmental monitoring, scientific research. Due to the limited energy of sensor nodes, how to effectively balance and save node energy consumption is one of the key problem of wireless sensor network.Routing protocol is one of the key technologies necessary for any type of computer network, which directly affects and determines the performance of wireless sensor networks and survival time. Hierarchical topology of the network has many advantages, for examples, the effective management of sensor nodes, reducing the transmit power of node; backbone node serves as the data integration tasks, reducing the data traffic; clustering topology is good for the application of the distributed algorithm, suitable for large-scale wireless sensor networks,so routing protocols based on this structure is most suitable for wireless sensor networks to its own characteristics.Hierarchy-based wireless sensor network routing protocols is in-depth analysis and research by the paper, in order to reduce the average energy consumption of a cluster in WSN’s clustering routing protocol, and solving the problem of unbalanced energy consumption of cluster-head near the sink node, We present a new algorithm with the name Balanced Energy Efficient routing Algorithm (BEERA). the candidate cluster head participate in the election with the optimal competition radius of the protocol, to arrive at a final cluster head, and then establish the minimum hop field in the forwarding path between the clusters, when the ordinary nodes join into clusters, it comprehensive consideration distance to the cluster head, the number of child nodes and the remaining energby by calculating communication cost. The simulation results show that BEERA prolongs the WSN’s lifetime effectively compared with Leach and other protocol.Aiming at the limitations of a single cluster head in the traditional clustering algorithm, the paper proposes a new concept named cluster-head-team. A certain number of candidate cluster head combine into a team in the model of the mechanism of competition. The cluster heads share information within the team,the paper propose optimization algorithm aiming at routing in team, which improve data fusion of the whole network, reducde the energy consumption of head nodes and extend the life of the network. We also examined in depth advantages brought by the algorithm in studying data fusion, security, expanding of wireless sensor networks.
