PDP (Plasma Display Panel) is one of the latest flat panel display devices underrapid development and application, which is praised for wide view angle, highbrightness, high contrast, inherent digital display method, etc. It is very suitable forpublic display application, as can be stitch into Large Size Screen with the Seamlessstitching technology.Plasma screen driving circuit design is the key of the display system design, as itdirectly influences the quality of the display screen. And energy recovery circuit anddriver waveform design is the key of driving circuit design. They directly affect theentire screen power consumption, brightness and contrast.Firstly the PDP development history and its beautiful future are introduced. Andthen it is introduced that the purpose of this work and the brief operation principle ofColor PDP. And the basic driving method of surface discharge color PDP and therequest of the driving system are analyzed.Secondly the structure of experimentalPDP driving circuit system is introduced. And it is proposed the function and designof every circuit as a part of experimental PDP driving circuit system. The method toreduce false contour of color PDP, the methods to improve the contrast and the designof energy recovery circuit are analyzed in details.Based upon the theoretical analysis,the driving and controlling system have been developed.A new energy recovery circuit is proposed form the typical plasma screen powercircuit of the energy recovery circuit Weber circuit based on the soft switchtechnology. Though the energy recovery efficiency of the proposed circuit is notsuperior to the Weber circuit, but the Weber circuit’ s serious hard switching operation,subsequent excessive surge current, serious power dissipation, EMI problem is solvedwell in the proposed circuit. The proposed circuit prolongs the service life of thedevice and lowers the technical difficulties of the control circuit design.On this basis, the scheme of the experiment screen’s control circuit is describes. The control circuit is realized with the FPGA. Through the analysis of the designrequirements, the general logic is divided for several child logics, designedrespectively. Then integrate the child logics together, and download into theexperimental screen’s hardware.Base on the design of the PDP driving circuit introduced in this paper, the colorPDP circuit system for the experiment screen is developed successfully. It canaccomplish the dynamic image display clear and brightly, with the circuit workssteadily, and laid a certain foundation for PDP circuit system research.
