In2003’s war in Iraq, the electromagnetic pulse weapons was the first time widelyemployed in war. Since then, lots of countries pay great attention on the electromagneticpulse weapons. Electromagnetic pulse weapons destroy/interfere electronic systems by thehigh power electromagnetic pulses which was sended by the electromagnetic pulse weapons.Ultra-wideband electromagnetic pulse is one of the main pulse source of electromagneticpulse weapons. Ultra-wideband electromagnetic pulse has rich spectrum resources. It willpose a threat to most of the electronic systems, There are two ways for the energy couplinginto the electronic system—the "front door" coupling and the "back door" coupling. As we allknow, Satellite communications is one of the main means of communication, and antenna isthe main "front door" coupling channel, Therefore, Studied the coupling effects between thesatellite communications antenna and the UWB-EMP is particularly important.Since the UWB-EMP may cause great harm to the communication system, the authorstudied the coupling effects of ring focus antenna and UWB-EMP, First, Analysis thecharacteristic of UWB-EMP, selected derivative Gaussian pulse as UWB-EMP source; andthen design a TEM horn antenna which operating band is2-14.5GHz as the transmittingantenna; then given the performance of the interferenced ring-focus antenna which working inKu-band; Finally, according to the transmission characteristics of the antenna system, analysisthe time domain and frequency domain response about the UWB-EMP on the ring-focusreceive antenna.Studies have shown that: when the single UWB-EMP which pulse-width is0.2nsincident along the ring-focus antenna’s axis, the pulse energy is very smaller,It’s means thatdistance between the UWB-EMP and the antenna must be very small(<0.1m). When thedistance is farther than1,000m, the antenna coupled to the energy below the threshold ofinterference threshold, the pulse is no longer cause harm to the communication system; whenthe pulse incident along a certain Angle with the ring-focus antenna’s axis, the interferenceabout the ultra-wideband electromagnetic pulse on the antenna will be greatly reduced. Whenthe UWB-EMP repetition frequency is10kHz incident along the antenna axis, the damagedistance will be less than500m, while when the interference distance is greater than80,000m,the electronic system will cause no interferenced. When the electromagnetic interference pulse incident from other angles, the damage distance or the interference distancewill be reduced. Finally,this paper summed up the ring-focus antenna interference/damagedistance from the threshold in the pulse interference base on the interference/damagethreshold of the CMOS devices..
