Marine equipment is the most important material basis for the human understandingof the sea, the use of marine resources and the protection of the marine environment.Today, marine technology and marine equipment has become an important indicatorto measure the country’s comprehensive national strength and scientific andtechnological level. In all elements of the marine monitoring, seawater temperature isone of the most important factor in the oceanographic conditions. Take the study onthe spatial and temporal distribution of sea temperature variation is not only thecontent of the oceanography, but also has the greatest significance for thedevelopment of disciplines such as meteorology, navigation, fishing and underwateracoustic. However, the marine environment is complex bad and there are manyuncertain factors, which may lead to a long period and higher cost of the laying andrecovering of the marine temperature data logger. Therefore, it needs more carefullythought in the problem of low power consumption during the design of the marinetemperature data logger, enabling the instrument to work long time and steadily.The paper describes in detail about the implementation each of each module ofthe marine temperature data logger based on the PIC microcontroller, which includessix parts of the core chip, data acquisition module, clock module, memory module,the serial communication module and power module. Starting with the temperaturedetection principle of the temperature data logger, the selection of temperature sensorand commonly used parameters of the thermistor, the main chip performance of eachmodule of temperature data logger and the timing diagram, program the overallstructure of the system through the principle of the state machine. Then, the softwaredesign for each module was made, especially the design for the alarm function of theclock module and the low-power design of the PIC microcontroller were made.Through the analysis of data collected under laboratory conditions, the reasonsfor measuring the error between the ideal values may be found, and further optimization of hardware of the marine temperature data logger will be made. Andtest the stability of the instrument, and calibrate the precision of the instrument usingthe S-H equation when the stability meets the requirement. After all design iscompleted, make the experiments off the coast riding the Dongfanghong2scientificresearch ship to the South China Sea, make analysis of the collected data, then makefurther research of the instrument’s long-term stability, reliability and consistency.Finally, make a summary to the whole paper, and make an outlook for the next stepsto the design.
