In the modern society, people are more and more tied to the Internet, and more and more inseparable from the discourse space and ways of entertainment which are built by the Internet and truly belong to the public. The popularity of the network media rebuild the pattern of communication ecology, strengthen the timeliness and interactivity of communication, and gradually eliminate distance in time and space. The Internet not only expands the possibility of spread, but also strengthens democracy of communication. The Internet star emerging in recent years is a peculiar phenomenon and product of the age of the Internet. The Internet provides a stage for ordinary people to become famous, which is relatively difficult to achieve for other mass media. The phenomenon of the Internet star has caused extensive concern and discussion in the whole society, at the same time, many scholars have initiated their research on it.After reading past literature and research achievement, the author finds previous study were more focused on the Internet star and the event itself, paying less attention to the field of audience. So there are not specialized research results on the role of audience in Internet star event propagation at the moment. However, today’s Internet is more than a platform for public communication, it also can be public places where people can share the resources, initiate and guide the social public opinion. Internet endows netizens with more rights, not only encourages them to participate in the event, but also stimulates them to imagine and innovate. After owning the discourse space with such freedom, people begin to participate in the discussion of public life with a more open posture, taking a more equal status to join in the construction of the multicultural society.In view of the increasing importance of audience in Internet Communication, this paper attempt to make a deeper analysis of the role of audience in Internet star event propagation through a brand new perspective. This paper first makes a general analysis on audiences’ performance and the reasons in Internet star event, combining the communication, sociology and psychology theories. Then the writer selects "GuoMeimei event" as a case study research and shows three modes of how audiences promote an event for further development. Meanwhile, makes a thorough analysis on the specific performance and the psychological characteristic of the audience. Finally, the author put forward some suggestion on the base of the change of the role of audience in Internet star event propagation.
