As an open&comprehensive network platform, Broadband IP Metropolitan Area Network can realize services of voice, image, data, multimedia, IP access as well as various value-added services and intelligent services, which has drawn attentions from operators and become a focal point of network construction With the involvement of foreign investments after joining WTO, a nationwide "enclosure movement" is about to begin soon. The ones who take the good opportunity in the future network construction and services development will gain the most competitive advantages. After recent years of construction and operation of Broadband IP Metropolitan Area Network, the initial vigorous construction of Broadband IP Metropolitan Area Network all over the country has progressed to relatively stable development at present and the market demand in reality requests operators to closely consider the relations between selection of network technology, services provision, selection of equipments, operation management and investment recovery of construction cost and even the profits.This paper introduces the network structure, network technology&solution of Broadband IP Metropolitan Area Network, takes the construction program of Broadband IP Metropolitan Area Network by Xiangyang China Railcom as an example discussing from several aspects including construction ideas, network solutions and services solution in constructing Broadband IP Metropolitan Area Network based on theoretical analysis, analyzing the full service mode with features of "operational, manageable, value added and extensible" in constructing Broadband IP Metropolitan Area Network and pointing out the major problems encountered in the development of IP Metropolitan Area Network. In order to solve those problems, this paper makes optimization analysis on IP Metropolitan Area Network from network topology, network layer, broadband access authentication, network management and network safety respectively. And at the same time, this paper analyzes metro transmission network technology&its development which are closely related to IP Metropolitan Area Network and also makes optimization analysis on it by relying on the development of IP Metropolitan Area Network in order to bring the network characteristic, service characteristic and safety characteristic of IP Metropolitan Area Network into full play. The ultimate goal is to make great effort to construct an IP Metropolitan Area Network which will be able to fully satisfy the demands of users and service development in a certain period in future as well as keep weight balance between investment and benefit.
