Image surveillance is a popular application in the field of information technology, which has gotten extensive concern for its direct-viewing, convenience and richness in content. Along with the rapid development of embedding technology, image processing technology and network technology, the development of image surveillance system aims at the orientation of embedded surveillance which is characterized by digitization, networking and integrating. Compared with the traditional surveillance system, it is more suitable for application in transportation, bank, residence community, industrial control and other occasions for its great advantages, such as small size, good flexibility, remote-monitoring possibility, high reliability, convenience and so on.Combined with the development orientation of surveillance system, the research of network surveillance system based on embedded system is put forward in this paper, and also one based on ARM micro processor is designed. Firstly, making the characters of embedded system clear, the requirement of the system is analyzed and the micro processor S3C2440which is based on ARM9core is selected for the system, thus a appropriate embedded board. Windows CE operating system is selected for the embedded system and its customization and transplantation are done. Based on that, the applications of C/S mode are designed, including server and client, for which EVC and VC++are used separately. To achieve that data transfer successfully from server to client, socket programming is adopted. And GDI+library is imported to display the real-time picture.An embedded network surveillance based on ARM and Windows CE is finally completed. After testing, it is showed that the system is of stable and good performance and valuable for practical use.
