In the21st centrury, electronic measuring instruments enter to the stage of the intelligent. The micropocesser is the core of instruments, contolling the acquisition and signal processing. But even the different types in a same instruments category are based on different development platform, therefore, the reusability of different measuring instrument’s devlopment stands in a low-level with the huge costs. The design of electronic measuring instrument begins to shift from the way which is focused on the hardware to giving priority to software based on a common hardware platform.This dissertation presents an instrument hardware platform based on ARM and FPGA. We design instrument control unit, human-computer interaction unit, instrument command/data channels and commucation interface. It focuses on instrument hybrid keyboard, display unit and instrument command/data channel. Then the transplantation and design of embeded Linux and interface driver is completed, when we design a new instrumnent, we can take advantage of this hardware platform, with a different instrument front-end measurement module to design it. Using this hardware platform can achieve instrument design platform to a certain extent.The dissertation first analyzes the composition of the general instrument hardware and software structure, and compares a variety of hardware platform architeture. Then it describes the hardware implementation of each module of the platform, and completes the design and simulation of display unit and communication I/O interface based on FPGA. Secondly, the transplantation of bootloader and operating system and the build process of YAFFS file system are introduced, as well as the driver transplantation of communication. Consequently, the drivers for display unit and communication interface are designed in detail. Finally, experimental results of the platform show that the system design achieves the intended purpose.
