LED display screen is a kind of modern high-tech flat display screen, which is madeup of dot matrix modules or pixel units. Endowed with so many advantages such as highbrightness, low energy consumption, flexible configuration, long life, rich display contentsand diverse display means, LED display screen is attracting great attention of differentfields and becomes a very popular medium carrier rapidly. Currently, LED display screenis developing towards a direction of high brightness, full color, standardization andnormalization. It’s obvious that the application of dot-matrix LED display screen is verypopular. Combining the design and implement of LED display screen based on ARM7high-performance micro-processing chip S3C44B0X,and from the perspectives of circuits&systems, the overall design scheme and design flow of hardware system and softwaresystem is presented in this paper.The main tasks described in this paper are as following:(1)Use micro-controller S3C44B0X with SoC micro processor,flash memory chipHY29LV16O and SDRAM chip HY57V641620to design hardware for the displaysystem.The words and symbols of display screen are transformed to LED controller fromhost computer by the means of serial port and network, and then the text will bedisplayed on the dot-matrix screen. Furthermore, the host computer can control and displaylight of the dot-matrix screen,the moving direction and moving speed.(2)Completing the software of host computer and lower computer. The software oflower computer is composed of main program and interruption service program.The mainprogram accomplishes initial work and displays words during which the serial portscommunicate with host computer through interruption methods. The host computersoftware can control the display content and method of the lower computer with VBprogramming language.Research results of the paper can better realize the required functions in debugging ofthe LED display system, and has been initially applied in products of the cooperatedcompanies. Efficiency and practicality of the method has been verified and desired goalshave been achieved.
