High-power solid state laser system is used as the driver for inertial confinement fusion. Damage resistance of the optical elements in high-power laser system is important to the useful output of the system. So it is important to prolong the lifetime of the optical elements in the system by improving the damage resistance of the optical elements. Because of the well transmission of the fused silica, it is always used as the terminal optical elements and suffering the UV laser irradiation. The fused silica elements is prone to damage because of the UV laser irradiation. At the same time, the damage site will grow rapidly and make the optical element scrapped, if the damage site was not treat in time. So, it is important to repair the damage site of the fused silica element.There are many methods to repair the damge site of the fused silica element, and the repair effect is best by a CO2laser than others. This method can improve the damage threshold of the damage site and mitigate the damage site growth. But the surface morphology of the element has been changed due to the repair of the damage site. The incident light will be modulated and effect the system.The effect to the light transmission of the repaired site with large morphology is studied in this dissertation. The main works are as follows;1. The treatment of the damage site by CO2laser is introduced briefly, and the morphology of the repaired sites is classified. The Gaussian rotation and similar Gaussian rotation are two types of the morphology of the repaired sites. And the studies are done according to them.2. Based on the scalar diffraction theory, the effect of the repaired site with Gaussian profile is studied. The result shows that the modulation is produced by the repaired site and take variety with distance. There are no difference when the repaired site is located in the front or the rear surface. It is very different from the the small scale repair sites.3. A experimental device is constructed to measure defect and repiared profile induced beam modulation. The result shows that the modulation is un by the defect induced and it is different from the repaired site. The modulation induced by the repiared profile take variety with distance. The modulation is notable at some place, and maybe introduce additional damage to the element at this palce.4. The hot-image produced by the repiared site with Gaussian morphology is studied by B-T theory and the scalar diffractin theory. The place and the intensity are calculated in briefly.
