With the development of social economy and people’s increasing demands, communications and signal processing systems are more and more complex, and the development of FPGA technology also makes FPGA’s application more and more extensive. Relying on traditional FPGA development methods has been difficult to meet the requirements. However, model-based design method has many advantages, and it provides a top to down development process from algorithm design to hardware implementation for users. By comparison of several model-based design tools, this dissertation researches on the base of Xilinx’s System Generator for DSP, in order to solve the problem of data exchange between hardware platform and Matlab\Simulink on the PC to accelerate the project’s validation and development process. This dissertation researches Hardware Co-simulation types that System Generator already supports, then designs Hardware Co-simulation compilation target files and interface module files for the hardware platform on the base of the JTAG interface files, and constitutes an implementation method of model-based design. This method uses hardware instead of software simulation, and analyzes the running results by Matlab\Simulink on the PC. It allows developers to carry on the whole development process from algorithm design to hardware implementation and verification on the Matlab\Simulink environment. So it is not required to master the knowledge of underlying hardware and hardware programming languages, particularly suites for development process on the common platform, and accelerates the validation and development process of FPGA. Finally, it verified by two algorithm models. This dissertation is divided into five chapters. Chapter One outlines the research background, describes the FPGA traditional development process and its shortcomings, then has a brief introduction to model-based design development process, and finally points out the research content of this dissertation. Chapter Two introduces the System Generator for DSP and expand from its important concepts, development process and compilation types, which make the necessary groundwork for the later applications. Chapter Three researches and realizes the implementation method of model-based design, and describes the hardware platform and interfaces which are used in this dissertation. Chapter Four verifies the implementation method by two algorithm’s instances about DDC and EMIF data exchange on the hardware development platform. Chapter Five summarizes this dissertation and indicates the future research directions.
