Vehicle fault monitoring system, as an operating parameters testing system, plays a veryimportant role in modern automotive technology and application. This study focuses on a carmonitoring and recording system based on SAE J1939protocol, which can achieve efficientreal-time monitoring of vehicle parameters and accurate record of error parameters.According to the application requirement and the temporary technology, the design goalof the monitoring and recording system is determined. In addition, the system functionalstructure, the firmware development programme and the design proposal for the interfacesystem are proposed in this paper.Firstly, the function structure of the system is determined, in account to the demands ofthe application.Secondly, through a detailed comparison about the hardware platform, ultimately amicroprocessor named STM32F107, with32-bite ARM Cortex M3(referred to as the CM3),is chosen as the system development platform here; and the design of the peripheral interfacecircuit of each functional module is carried out and the power module for this system.Thirdly, according to the system application requirement and the hardware developmentplatform, this paper selects the RealView MDK as the corresponding software integrateddevelopment environment. In order to finish the development task conveniently and quickly,the ST-Link downloader is employed as well; Taking fully account into the actual systemapplication characteristic, the firmware development programme is divide into two state:on-line and off-line, and the corresponding design are carried out separately.What’s more, according to the characteristic of the user, the development of the interfacesystem is executed in windows OS; the detailed demands of the interface are analyzed, andthen the design scheme is fixed. Different interface development platforms and procedurelanguages are compared. The interface design is conducted in VB at last, following theprinciples of simplicity, clearness and ease for operation; For the purpose of developing areasonable and easy-to-use interface, a USB driver are developed with Windriver, and adatabase is created with Access.Finally, the experimental test result shows that this system is a reliable and efficientsystem: it can not only successfully monitor the data transmission of cars, but alsoimmediately record and analysis of error information; the interface developed in this paper issimple and easy for use.
