With the rapid development of electronic information technology, the research on urban intelligent public traffic system has become a hot issue and frontier topic. It not only mitigates traffic pressure greatly, but also promotes digital information process of the urban public traffic supervision. This thesis proposes and develops a supervision system for urban public traffic based on GPS, GPRS and GIS technologies, which is supported by the Industrial Cultivation Project of Hunan Provincial Education Department and based on the previous research results. In order to realize the real-time remote monitoring and intelligent management of public traffics, the system uses GPS to get vehicle location information, applies GPRS to send the information and utilizes GIS to display positions on the electronic map accurately. The main research works in the thesis are as follows:(1) The various technologies, concerning position system, wireless communication system and geographic information system, are analyzed and compared. The MapX and Winsock programming in VC are showed. By the analysis and elaboration of technologies needed in the system development, GPS, GPRS, GIS, Database and Network Communication etc are all integrally applied on the intelligent supervision system of urban public traffics, therefore there is an overall innovation of technology integration in the thesis.(2) The system project is designed, according to the total request analysis and the basic design principles. The whole system is divided into three subsystems based on current traffic situations:intelligent vehicle terminal, multi-functional electronic platform and traffic supervision center. The structure and functions of each subsystem are detailed.(3) The traffic supervision center software platform is designed and realized. Its logical framework is researched on the basis of the function request analysis. Real-time monitoring platform based on GIS is researched and developed. The various functions, such as vehicles position real-time display, automatic broadcasting, vehicle tracking, reappearance of track, remote configuration etc, are implemented.(4) The function structure of the traffic supervision center is divided into four functional modules utilizing a modularization:remote data communication module, information management module, GIS module and vehicle real-time monitoring module. The research and development work of each module is completed, which mainly includes communication protocol design, data communication function realization, database development, database access implementation utilizing ADO, and the research of map-matching algorithm, automatic broadcasting algorithm, etc.(5) To improve the vehicle positioning precision, GPS data is analyzed and modified utilizing GPS combined with map-matching technology. A automatic broadcasting algorithm, which is realized in both traffic supervision center and vehicle terminal, is put forward. It not only reduces the load of vehicle terminal, but also make full use of the resource of traffic supervision center.(6) In order to help operators to monitor traffic vehicles real-timely and manage the transit operation information, human-computer interface of the traffic supervision center software platform is developed utilizing document-view frame of VC++.(7) To ensure the reliability of the traffic supervision center, the problems occurred in the research and development process are analyzed, debugged and solved. In order to achieve project acceptance standard, the functions of the traffic supervision center is tested using the tourism1line in a provincial capital city as an example.
